  1. Will - A legal document which allows you to control how your estate will be managed and distributed after you pass on. With Quickwill, you are able to choose your executor, a guardian for your minor children and set aside funds and instructions for pet care.

  2. Intestate - A person who has passed on without having a valid will in place. In this instance the person's estate is managed and distributed by the state (Master of the Court) and all controls which a will would cover are lost. The time delays caused result in significant stress for loved ones as they need to wait for distribution. Over 70% of South Africans do not have a will!

  3. Testator - A person who has created a will, hence you are the testator if you create a Quickwill.

  4. Heir - A person who you, the testator, would like to leave an inheritance to in your Quickwill.

  5. Executor - The company (or person) which will attend to the administration of your deceased estate when you pass on. You choose your executor with Quickwill.

  6. Guardian - The person who is legally appointed to take custody of your minor child/children if there is no existing parent or guardian at the time of your passing.

  7. Children's Trust - A mechanism by which a separate legal entity is created which then owns and manages certain of your assets through trustees (appointed by you) for the benefit of your children.

  8. Witness - A person who participates in the validation of your Quickwill. They ensure that you have the intention and mental capacity to form a legal will. All witnesses must be present at the signing and should be able to observe your actions during the process,

  9. Bequeath - To leave certain property to a person or charity in your Quickwill.
